The Les Paul guitar has been synonymous with music for so long, that most people don't even realize that it is named after a man. His name is Lester Polfus, and he was once the world's most famous musician who played the guitar. He was responsible for bringing the concept of an electric guitar with a solid body to the attention of the Gibson guitar company back in the 50s. At first, Gibson opted to reject the idea, but after some wise thinking, brought Lester in to help with designing what is now a musical masterpiece.

And you can be sure that there will be more of these masterpieces put out by Les Paul in the years to come.
- They have had only minuscule changes over 50 plus years. When you look back at all the products we've had and how much they've changed in fifty plus years, that is astonishing. They have only been tweaked a bit here and there. That's a testament to the high quality and perfection of the Les Paul. They have added various pickups and adjusted the neck shape a bit, and just little things like that. But overall, it's the same guitar. To someone who doesn't have a trained eye, they would say the 50s guitar is virtually identical to the Les Paul of 2010. This is a real feat of continuity across generations of talented music makers.
- They are unique and recognizable. Even a housewife in Utah is able to pick out a tune that is played on one of these guitars. These housewives probably don't know much more about them, like the number of strings, or anything about pickups, but if they hear something played on them, they remember it.
- They cost a lot. This may seem like a negative, but let's look at it in perspective. Owning a guitar that is expensive, is like your 'Rite of Passage'. For most people who own them, it's an true investment and makes a very serious statement about their dedication to quality and music. The reputation of the Les Paul gives them a status that other guitars just can't bring them.
