Guitar Sheet Music, Guitar Tablature - An Effective way of Learning Guitar

One of the best ways to practice the guitar is through the use of a guitar tablature or the guitar sheet music.

Guitar tablatures are the most effective guide in learning and playing the guitar. Today people can find variety of resources from books and especially the World Wide Web. Reading the guitar music requires patience and knowledge, and with practice you can strum along to your favorite song without hassle.

Guitar sheet music or tablatures are easy to understand and read once you've known the basics.

First you need to know its parts and purposes. Some guitar tablatures also include the musical staff, which indicates the notes and the tempo timing of the song, but it is mostly for advance musicians who can read notes. Beginners should start by learning to read the tablature sheet.

The guitar sheet music is made up of 6 lines, which act as the guitar strings. The upper line is the high pitch E string while the lowest is the bass E string. There are numbers written on the line, which indicates the finger positions on the fret bar. Also you can find letters on the tab like "p" which means pull (the pulling of fingers from the strings) and "h" for hammer (hammering the string with fingers). The strumming patterns though indicated with a symbol would be learned easily if you play along with the song.

You can find guitar sheet music of your favorite songs from music books and websites that offer free tablatures submitted by fellow musicians. There is also computer software, which shows you not only the tablature but plays it as well together with sound for easy learning.

There are lots of effective ways of learning the guitar and learning how to read guitar music is a good thing to learn and practice.

Learning the guitar requires a lot of skills and dedication to excel and guitar sheet music is indeed the best help for learning the instrument. It will require a lot of time and effort but once you get used to it, you'll see that you can play any song as long as there's a tablature to read.

Some people say that using guitar tablatures is the same as cheating, but most people and musicians who also devote time writing sheet music thinks that it's just to speed things up for beginning musicians.

Some may not be a fan. Some may prefer learning by ear, but for beginners and for those who want to save themselves from the hassle of learning the song by listening to it over and over, reading guitar sheet music is a shortcut.

Using tablatures is not bad but if you want to excel further you might as well teach yourself music theories and practice learning by ear. After all, guitar tablature is one of the many methods to practice and learn guitar. It is also a great help to satisfy yourself when you're playing a song you have always wanted to play.

Classical Guitar is the Perfect Instrument for a Child to Learn

There is no arguing with the fact that teaching a child to learn an instrument is something that can potentially bring him or her a lifetime of joy and enrichment. But keeping a child interested in practicing can be a challenge. Among all the instruments that a child can learn how to play the classical guitar is among the best. Here are the reasons.

The classical guitar takes advantage of the allure of the rock star. Every child is familiar with pop music and every child who is interested in playing an instrument would probably take very quickly to playing the guitar. Any child would be quick to brag to his or her friends that he is learning to play the guitar. It is a highly romanticized instrument and this is what I call the allure of the Rock Star. You can take advantage of this attraction to popular music by teaching a child to play classical guitar.

Playing classical guitar is a bit different than playing pop and rock but there are some distinct advantages to classical guitar. The child will learn the fundamentals of sound music theory and will focus on learning how to read sheet music. Along the way the child will learn the basics of classical music.

But he or she will not lose interest in playing because while the classical guitar is a good instrument for learning theory, history, ability, and classical music, it is also an instrument that offers an incredible range of pieces to play in many genres. With the ability to play classical guitar comes the ability to play in every other genre that the guitar is played in. He or she will be able to play pop, rock, easy listening, country, jazz, blues, or any other type of music where a guitar is used. It is because of this wide variety of music that will be available to the student that he or she will be much more prone to continue practicing and continue playing. And this is another great reason why the classical guitar will bring a lifetime of enjoyment and enrichment. As the child grows and his musical tastes change the guitar can be right there through all the changes.

There are also some very pragmatic reasons for the classical guitar

Portability: The classical guitar is something that can be carried to and from lessons and to and from a friend’s house. Classical Guitars are also made in half size and three quarter size which gives young children the ability to play on an instrument more suited for their small hands.

Expense: professional guitars can be very expensive and run into the thousands of dollars but with the popularity of the guitar as an instrument there is a tremendous selection of inexpensive yet well made guitars. An adequate first guitar can usually be found in the fifty to a hundred dollar range.

Quiet Instrument: the classical guitar is an instrument that can be played in a room without the music being intrusive to other people in the house.

What if there is no classical guitar instructor in your town or city?

Upon the surface or during an initial look this may be true; there may be no official classical guitar instructors available to you but there is no doubt a large list of teachers who teach rock guitar. And one thing about the genre of rock and rock guitarists is that they have a reverence for classical guitarists because classical guitarists are renowned for their technical ability -classical guitarists are simply great guitarists and any rock guitarist can probably name his favorite classical guitarists.

To overcome the lack of an official classical guitar instructor you can simply ask rock guitar instructors if they are willing to take on a child that wants to learn classical guitar. Many of them will jump at the chance because it will also broaden their horizons and musical ability.

But there is one question you should ask any potential rock guitar instructor. Make sure that he or she can read sheet music reasonably well. This is of paramount importance for learning classical guitar. Some instructors may not fit this requirement because rock guitarists often learn their craft through ear training and using tablature, which is a notation form of music. This type of instructor wouldn’t be suitable for a student of classical guitar.

The classical guitar sometimes has the reputation of being a bit of a high-class instrument. But it is an instrument that crosses all genres of music and if you are considering the classical guitar for your child I applaud your decision. It is an instrument that can bring him or her a lifetime of musical enrichment and enjoyment.

How To Practice Guitar

To begin to understand how to practice the guitar for maximum benefit you must first understand what practicing is. To practice the guitar is not the same as sitting down and playing the guitar. While replaying things you already have mastered has its place later on in the practicing regime, practice is truly learning some new material to further build whatever skills you have already.

However, what if you are a new beginner to the world of playing the guitar? Where do you start if you know nothing? There are several basics that all new players must develop before they can move on to learning and perfecting sounds or songs. They are:

-Toughening your fingers. The strings on a guitar can be very sharp and can cause pain to tender fingers that have never been exposed to the pressure needed to apply to a guitar string. So working your fingers into a calloused state where the playing of anything is no longer painful is essential to beginning guitar players.

-Start to work your fingers and build your knowledge base of the guitar by starting with learning individual notes. Once the basic notes are understood, you can move on to more complicated combinations and new sounds.

-Having learned the individual notes will lead you directly into learning the chords and structures used when playing the guitar in a more advanced way. Chords tend to be the starting block for most songs out there and thus must be learned for application in differing musics.

-Developing your sense of beat or rhythm is of course essential to anyone who strives to learn a musical instrument. You have to be able to mark a beat and carry it steadily as tempos change and a song progresses.

-Learning your frets goes hand-in-hand with this and is important to chord learning as well as to song learning. You need to understand your instrument to best use it to your benefit to produce the music you desire to play.

-And of course there are different strumming methods to be learned so as to be able to effectively use them as they are called for in any formalized music. As tempos and beats speed up and slow down, different strumming methods are required and you must learn them in preparation for when they will be called into use.

Once you have begun to learn the basics in using a guitar to make music, it is often advised that a beginner look into getting a tutor. In doing this, you expose yourself to someone who is much more efficient when it comes to using the guitar and who has developed a philosophy of the music he or she creates. This is why it is important to learn a lot about a tutor you may want to hire before you begin to actually work with him or her as you want to make sure that their philosophy is as close to your own as possible, thus creating the most conducive learning environment for yourself. Philosophy is crucial in your approach to making music on the guitar and must work as well for you as it does for your tutor.

Once you have hired a tutor you are comfortable with, you will most likely be exposed to learning to read music. This may seem daunting at first but it will help you immensely as you continue your pursuit of learning the guitar as you progress to more difficult pieces and more advanced playing situations. Also, you will probably be exposed to learning the theories behind playing the guitar and behind playing music in general, all of which will only add to your ability to play more effectively as you begin to understand music more completely.

You will also be presented with a practice plan and it is important to realize that setting goals for a single session is not as productive as setting your plan for a week. Practice times are not to be etched in stone and a definite number of hours and minutes is only detrimental to the learning process. You must be dedicated enough to put in appropriate amount of time but also you must feel the music as you play, and not be distracted by clock-watching.

It is important to remember that while you may have a tutor you are paying to guide you on your exploration with the guitar, it is still necessary for you to find time to experiment and explore different ways to play. Once you have learned a few easy songs, repeating them as is does little to expand your learning . . . but trying them in a different key or improvising with them to add new sounds to the original song does, and you should find time to experiment with your growing knowledge base in your practice sessions.

Listening to a variety of different styles of music is important as you begin to play music yourself. It allows you to see a variety of ways the information you are learning is being used by professionals and semi-professionals around the world. This can also inspire you to try something new in your experimentations that perhaps you never would have contemplated before if you had not listened to differing styles of music. Soon you will begin to be able to pick out changes in chords, musical patterns, tempo, and strumming styles and recognize where they began and where they ended up.

It is also so very important to always remember as you begin your desire to practice and learn the guitar for the maximum benefit that the art of learning the guitar is not a race. Everyone will learn at their own pace, and it is not a dead-heat to the finish line. Take your time and learn every step of the way to your satisfaction and the music you end up producing will be the most satisfying sounds you ever heard emitted from the guitar you are so patiently learning to play. Practice is important if you want to learn anything but especially so in the guitar as it is much more complex an instrument to master than others.

Learn How To Play The Guitar - It's Not So Hard

We live in an age where most people do not feel the need to learn to play a musical instrument like the guitar. But if you learn how to play the guitar you will be doing yourself a favor in so many ways. Until you have begun guitar lessons you do not know the feeling of engaging with a musical instrument, learning how to use your body and interact with the guitar to make music.

The common questions most beginner guitar players ask are, "How hard is it to learn to play the guitar?" and "How long will it take before I start making music?" To take the first question first, it is kind of daunting right at the beginning when you have bought your guitar, found some sheet music or guitar tab, and in that first moment as you begin, you realize how much you do not know. From there it gets easier. You practice for half an hour or an hour a day, you get some callouses on your left hand fingertips and you get into the routine of learning easy guitar chords. Every day you practice you feel some progress.

As for how long it takes before you start sounding good on the guitar, it varies but you could say three months. If you practice regularly you can go from a guitar no-nothing to someone who can play a song all the way through, in time, without stopping three months from now. If you do not try the three months still goes past but you still do not know how to play the guitar.

What do you learn in this first three months of guitar playing? Making music entails learning guitar chords and how to read musical notes in the form of tab or sheet music. You will probably learn to play an acoustic guitar with nylon strings first to give your fingers a chance to toughen up and to learn to play without the sound of an electric guitar covering up your mistakes.

The acoustic guitar also has the advantage of quietness. When you first learn to play the guitar you do not want to make enemies of your friends and family as you make your first, possibly un-musical sounding efforts to play. With an acoustic guitar you can also take it anywhere with you to practice in a more inspirational setting or when you get a break from your work or studies.

A final point I should touch on is the question of learning to read music. There is so much guitar music in tab form on the internet these days anyone who wants to learn how to play the guitar should be able to get along quite well without learning to read sheet music. In fact it would be hard to find a guitar course that relied solely on sheet music. If you are young and feel some enthusiasm for learning music theory, you will probably get enormous benefits from taking the slightly longer road to learning how to play the guitar, but if it all seems like too much trouble, you can manage without it.

The next step for you now is to find some easy guitar songs and some advice on how to hold the guitar beginning to learn how to play.

Home Guitar School Using Guitar Software

The decision to go to a guitar music school or university, instead of learning with guitar software, is the most common way to learn the guitar for serious aspiring students seeking a high quality guitar education. The desire to gain a strong guitar and musical knowledge is a serious educational pursuit and there are many levels of music theory curriculum, fretboard logistics, musical application and much more that non professional musicians do not realize until they have experienced many years of frustration trying to learn the guitar.

Therefore, going to a guitar school or university of some type to obtain a music degree with an emphasis on the guitar obviously makes sense, because a music school does not have the time, money, resources, or ability to attract high paying students with a program that is of the same low quality as the fifty dollar online guitar lesson downloads available on the internet.

Learning guitar in school isn't just simply about memorizing some chords or scales but requires a significant base of knowledge, study and practice. Without going to a music school the guitar player is faced with a plethora of online and other various computer programs and books with teaching programs that are consistently fragmented and "hyped" teaching methods that give you some information to get you on some learning path but never come close to fulfilling the term education. The term guitar education represents a serious study with university level and real world methodologies that provide the content of a music school. Education should also give you cutting edge methodology, teaching and practicing systems.

Guitar software offers you a chance to obtain an intensive, guitar education and musical application using methods that will turn you into the kind of knowledgeable and skilled guitar player that you have been hoping to acquire over the years without satisfactory success.

It is truly exciting and historical that with good guitar software you can bring the guitar university into your home in a complete instructional and practice center without leaving the house. Previously students of the guitar have not had the technology to be able to have total control of their learning and practice environment, even when going to a school computer lab.

Guitar students need structure, which is why they go to music school. Programs are structured to provide logical study paths and attainable goals. They need integrated courses that work together to give a big picture of what they are learning. This is why the music school provides a broad series of courses. And just as important the student needs interactive, musical practice to apply what they are learning. Often times a music school will have courses or labs for doing this. Therefore, a good guitar software program needs to provide all of these things for a student to have the real option of learning at home versus going to a school.

Few people have the opportunity to get the right teaching and tools to learn and master their guitar. For the guitar player who is serious about learning and is looking for something that will deliver more than just a lot of marketing and fragmented teaching, than it is possible to obtain a software program of a high caliber that will teach the guitar better, more thoroughly, and with more knowledge, than he or she ever dreamed about.

The level of guitar education a music university has to offer is important for your progress and it is nice to have this kind of education from home with software.

Beginner Guitar - Tips to Help the Beginner Guitar Player

Most people who are interested in music often have the urge to be a beginner guitar player. They are influenced by the musicians they see on TV, what they hear on radio, or by their favorite music. There are some who just want to be able to reproduce or sing along with their favorite song. Others have more personal reasons such as wanting to impress someone with their guitar playing skills or dreaming of becoming famous. For those interested in beginner guitar, here are some tips to help you get started.

The first thing that a beginner guitar player should do is to decide which type of guitar he or she wants to play. There are different types of guitars and also different types of musical genre. There is the classical guitar which has a wider staff compared to other guitars. This is the guitar most preferred by those into classical music as this allows for a more flexible picking of notes. Using this type of guitar doesn't require any need to use an amplifier. There is also the acoustic guitar which is available for any kind of music. There is also the electric guitar which is the type mostly used by rock bands. The bass guitar, which is available in both acoustic and electric versions, is used for lower notes. This usually has four strings although there are also bass guitars with 5 or 6 strings available.

Another thing that a beginner guitar player should do is to decide if he or she wants to study playing the guitar with a teacher or by himself. Although it is less costly to learn the guitar yourself, the guidance given by a guitar teacher is valuable because they have also undergone years of training and experience with regards to guitar playing. Also, they will be able to correct you if you're doing something wrong such as improper hand movement and posture.

Some people forget to do this but it is important to remember to take your time. Learn the basics in guitar 101 and the easy songs first. These fundamentals include knowing the parts of the guitar and how to tune the guitar strings. Beginner guitar players should also study the different guitar theories as this teaches them how to read notes and do scales. This is especially important if you're interested in playing classical music as these music pieces often require a guitar player to read notes. Other genres of music also incorporate note reading as a requirement to guitar playing. Strumming is also an essential part in guitar playing as this allows you to accompany most of the songs heard once you know the basic guitar chords.

Beginner guitar players should also remember that there is such a thing as good posture which matters in guitar playing. Many may not know it but there is a proper posture being taught by music teachers with regard to guitar playing. It is advisable for the guitar player to sit in an armless chair with the guitar resting on his lap. Some musicians even use a foot rest so as to be able to prop the guitar on one knee for added support and ease of use.

A beginner should also use the right pick. These picks come in various styles. It is important to choose the pick which you are most comfortable with and which isn't hard on the hands or fingers. A beginner is advised to choose a soft pick first so that you can strum quicker. You might also want a firmer one since it is said that firmer picks produce a richer quality of sound. You should also remember to grip it firmly but not too tightly.

Probably the most important tip for beginners to remember is to practice. Practice makes guitar playing easier for the beginner. It'll also help you memorize notes quicker. If you have a guitar recital coming up, it is important to be comfortable with the piece you'll be performing.

Beginner guitar players don't have to be afraid of the instrument. All they have to do is to practice, be comfortable, and to have fun. This is the reason why most people choose to play an instrument in the first place. They want to have fun and enjoy music at the same time.

Every Guitar Player, Beginner or Advanced, Needs This Book

The guitar, one of the most popular musical instruments of the day, actually dates back more than five thousand years in the recorded history of various cultures. Hard as it may be to imagine, those screaming SGs of hard rock bands had their roots in very primitive stringed instruments played by people of ancient times. Many people think of the guitar as the instrument of rock stars, folk balladeers or country western artists only, but the versatility and range of the guitar across many musical forms is extremely well documented.

The prototype of the modern guitar had its early origins as a small box with a couple of strings stretched across it, which were plucked one at a time - guitar chords had a few hundred years yet to evolve. Early guitar offered only a few notes played one at a time. As music theory developed into scales and combinations of notes, the guitar gradually became more complex, allowing for the playing of multiple notes and then chords on a fingerboard.

When you search the web for information on guitars you will find a wealth of material in websites and online bookstores offering everything from free online guitar lessons to guitar tabs, guitar scales, bios of famous guitarists, and guitar music cheat sheets. By far the most helpful material that you can get on the web is "The Guitar and Its Music" by James Tyler and Paul Sparks. This is a series of publications by Oxford Early Music Series which discusses the theory and practice of guitar music. With all the information that is available about the guitar The Oxford Early Music Guitar Music Series is a superior reference. In addition to learning about the history of the guitar from the Renaissance to modern day, it offers tips and techniques to help guitar players of any level improve their skills and enhance their knowledge.

Guitar playing theories are also explained in this book. Musical genres are explained and discussed in detail and advice is even given about mixing musical genres to create one's own unique style. For example, the famous guitarist Carlos Santana created his own signature style by blending Latin rhythms to rock guitar. The Oxford Guitar Music Series gives in-depth information on how to work at mixing techniques like rock with reggae, and so on, allowing Santana aficionados and everyone else an opportunity to develop their own artistic styles.

This book is a must-read for students and masters of guitar alike. Knowing more about guitars than just the fact that famous rock stars play them will give the reader a more in-depth appreciation of the many facets and styles of guitar playing. It can enrich and elevate guitar playing from just a casual hobby to a true passion. The book can be found in online bookseller websites or at your local bookstores.

Jennifer Wylie was inspired to teach herself the guitar by folk music artists like Joan Baez, Peter Paul and Mary and Bob Dylan. She enjoys playing and collecting guitars and currently owns about 13 guitars (she keeps losing count because they are stored all over the house). Recently Jennifer decided to create a website which would address many of the questions and concerns faced by those who wish to play the guitar but who need guidance and help with making decisions, like whether to be self-taught or take lessons, what kind of guitar to buy, how to care for the guitar and how to become a skilled guitarist. The fruits of her labors are on view at http://www.guitar-playing-for-beginners.com, an ongoing work in progress which will continue to provide useful information about learning the guitar.

Select the Right Guitar Camp For Your Child With These 10 Tips

If you have a child between 8 and 14 years old who plays the guitar, chances are he is asking to go to Guitar Camp this summer. With all the guitar camps to choose from, how do you know which camp is right for YOUR child?

1. Why does your child want to go to guitar camp? If your child is participating in a beginner guitar camp to see if it is something she likes, think about the potential "next step" after camp. If you might want to continue with guitar lessons after camp consider a guitar camp that is managed by a local business so that your son can continue learning from the same teacher(s) he got to know in camp. If she is going to guitar camp because she wants to play in a band, does the camp offer a year-round program with a performance component that she could enroll in after camp?

2. Type of music. There are many different genres of music. One guitar camp may focus on jazz guitar while another focuses on rock music. Be sure you ask. If your daughter doesn't like jazz music, she won't enjoy the experience.

3. The staffSome teachers are educators. Others are musicians. Musicians tend to have more "street cred" with the kids. Will your young musician enjoy guitar camp more with teachers or with musicians and how does that match up with the background of the instructors?

4. Accountability Does your child want to learn something at guitar camp or is it just something to do during the day while you work? Whichever answer it is for you and your child, be sure that matches up with the expectations of the camp.

5. Individual attention. Individual attention is critical for a student's ability to learn as a musician. What is the student-to-teacher ratio in the guitar camp you are considering? Also ask if the instructors are with the campers at all times. I know of one guitar camp that has the kids work together in a group for hours at a time with no teacher in the room because the instructor is going from room to room and group to group.

6. Skill level required to participate. One of the most frustrating experiences for a young musician is to be in a group with other kids who are at a different level of experience. If the guitar player is a beginner and there are more advanced kids in her group she feels like she's holding the group back. If the guitar player is advanced and there are beginner guitarists in the group, he gets bored. Question how the campers are grouped in any guitar camp you consider.

7. Academic approach or playing approach? Some guitar camps teach through a music education curriculum which means your child learns the elements of playing a guitar before actually playing a song. Others teach the elements through teaching songs from the beginning. Neither is right or wrong. It's simply which style is best for YOUR child.

8. Who runs/owns the camp? Some guitar camps are "traveling camps" which rent space in your town and hire local people to run the camps. Other guitar camps are offered by established music schools in your community with their year-round teachers running the camps. I believe there's more accountability with the latter. After all, you can't "return" your camp experience if your child doesn't like it and chances are you won't be able to get into a different guitar camp that same week if your child is having a less-than-desirable experience.

9. Time commitment to Guitar Camp. Are you looking for a one- or two-week camp? Are you looking for an all-day or a half day guitar camp? If camp is over before you get off work, what arrangements can you make for your child to stay at camp until you are finished working?

10. Specialization Are you looking for a guitar camp, specifically, or a music camp which includes guitar? Both have their benefits. I believe specialization is the way to go for beginners because everything discussed at camp helps them learn how to play the guitar. Specialization is also valuable for those young musicians wanting to significantly advance their guitar playing ability over the summer. If the kids are going to guitar camp to meet other musicians that they might form their own band with or just to be able to play music at the level they already play at, then the multiple-instrument music camp will be sufficient.

There are no right or wrong answers. The thing that makes it "right" is how it matches up to what you and your child are looking for. Selecting the right guitar camp for your child can mean the difference between a lifelong interest in playing a musical instrument and never picking up an instrument again. Learning is supposed to be fun.....especially when learning to play the guitar.

The Bass Guitar and Why it Rocks

This post will introduce you to the bass guitar, touch on its history, its evolution and mention some of the amazing bass players that have graced the instrument. Read on to learn more about the bass guitar.

Welcome to the world of the bass guitar; if you’re reading this then you’ve taken an interest in the electric bass and have decided to pursue it further. Maybe this post will reaffirms your decision to play bass guitar, or perhaps it will be the final argument for you to start playing the bass yourself.

The bass guitar is a pretty cool instrument. It may not be as flashy as a drum kit, or command as much attention as a pimped out electric guitar, but it has a subdued, laid-back vibe all its own. A standard bass guitar has four strings and is tuned E-A-D-G; an octave below the lowest strings on a guitar to provide a sonic foundation for the melody to build upon.

While you may give up the fame and glory of the spotlight when you choose to become a bass player, you gain full control of the key of the music, and full dominion over the bass frequencies.

Bass Guitar Frequencies Move People

This is almost a mystical power that most people won’t even realize that you have. Many won’t even realize that it is the bass player and the way he chooses to play certain notes, leave others out, and the space and rhythms in between these that are hypnotizing them into dancing. It is a great responsibility that you take on – called the groove – without it; any music you play will be lame.

So besides this, why take on the bass guitar? What is it about the bass guitar that is cool, or should be attractive to someone just starting out that just wants to play SOMETHING? Well, getting up and running with a bass guitar is much easier than most other instruments. You don’t have to have four-way independence as with drums, you don’t have to memorize all the chord fingering patterns like you would with a guitar, and you don’t have to spend years to get a sound that doesn’t sound like a cat being tortured as you would with a violin. You can pick up a bass guitar and start playing bass lines almost immediately – the good news is that the easier it is to play an instrument along to music you like when you’re starting out, the more likely you’ll stay with the instrument for good.

Another great reason why the bass guitar is cool is that EVERYONE needs a bass player. You make the other band members sound good, and there are many styles of music out there that use the bass guitar. That means that if you’re a good bass player, you’re willing to work hard, learn and you have a great attitude –you’re going to have many more job opportunities than many other musicians would have.

Being a bassist is as much a state of mind as it is a position in the band. You need to put the song and the other musicians before yourself. You are the glue between the rhythm and the melody – you straddle the line between the drummer and the guitarist, giving the music that third dimension that makes music so exciting. If you’re willing to put your ego on the back burner, you can become a truly great bassist that is in demand.

Is playing the bass guitar easier? Yes it is. But to master any instrument is virtually impossible. Playing bass guitar is initially much easier than guitar; you can outline chords one finger at a time as opposed to learning the fingerings for each chord. You also have fewer strings to change than the guitarist, but keep in mind that bass guitar strings are thicker – so in some ways, playing the bass guitar is more difficult because you need to play just as fast as the guitarists but with thicker strings. This means that you’re moving more mass in the same amount of time or energy.

What you may not know about the bass guitar is:

There is something to be said for a simple bass line that does what it’s supposed to do, get some asses out of the chairs at the bar.

Bass guitars can be beautiful and expensive, they can break your heart and if you get used to playing them – playing bass guitar can indeed be habit forming!

The electric bass guitar was responsible for making rock n’ roll music come to life in the fifties – the bass could now be heard (as well as felt!) and helped to drive the new-fangled rock n roll bands mercilessly into the spotlight.

The electric bass guitar started out with 4 strings and remained that way for several decades, before evolving to 5, 6, 8 and even 12 stringed versions beginning in the mid-70s. These multi-stringed basses owe a large debt of thanks to Anthony Jackson who helped open the door to more than 4 string basses by commissioning the first six string bass guitar to be built in the 1970s!

Some famous bass guitarists include Paul McCartney, Sting, Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson, Flea, Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan, Stanley Clarke and John Entwistle.

You can get started with a bass guitar kit that includes a bass guitar, a bass guitar amp, a guitar strap, an bass guitar instrument cable and a tuner for around $250 or you can even rent a bass guitar from many major music instrument retailers. Even if you don’t know of any teachers in your town, you can surf Youtube and find plenty of lessons for free that can get you started. There’s no good reason to sit on the fence anymore, playing bass guitar can be an affordable hobby that can actually make you some extra money if you choose to play out in bands.

Choosing to play the bass guitar has given me plenty of opportunity to learn and grow as a human being. It’s allowed me to experience the thrill of performing in front of large audiences while sharing the stage with some amazing bands and meet terrific people. Playing bass guitar is a great way to be creative, relieve stress and have fun!

So what are you waiting for? Get out there, find a bass guitar and start playing today!

If You Want To Learn Bass Guitar Easily, Stop Dreaming And Start Jamming

Bass guitars are among some of the more popular choices of stringed musical instruments sold in the market these days. The design resembles an electric guitar although its neck is actually a lot longer. A typical bass guitar comes with four strings attached to its headstock. The four strings are usually tuned to the notes E, A, D, and G.

Tuning the bass is the same as a guitar given that the lower four strings of the guitar are definitely the on the low end. The bass can be useful for providing harmony as well as laying down the beat. At this point let's understand the basics of the bass guitar.

The harmony of a bass is about how the chords come together. This intensifies the actual progression of chords. The chord progression can be a combination of chords variations that is contrary to the tonality of the key or chord. The chord progression is usually thought of as the harmony which includes quick successions that changes the tone levels at the same time. In conclusion, harmony can also be referred to as chord theory.

The beats you create with your hands are known as rhythmic pulses. The beat is widely seen as the fundamental element in music, it's the music's unit of time. Together with suitable placement and use, playing the bass guitar creates a consistent beat known as the tempo.

As you listen to music, you'll notice the beat and the harmony of the song is enhanced because of the bass guitar. Based upon the style of music being played, the baselines are all played by the bassist. The most simple basslines are generally played in pop music while the the other instruments and the vocals are more in front and create the main part of the song.

However, with rock, reggae, hip-hop, and funk, the actual melody in the songs come from the bass and the baseline is much more pronounced. It is very easy to duplicate the particular style of bass once you begin to master and learn the basics of the bass guitar.

More and more we are starting to hear the bassist doing solo's while playing rhythm in order to overpower some of the other melodies. The actual baselines used in solos will vary depending on the style of music being played. In a rock song, the bass solo can be performed over a pause within the song.

If you're playing metal, the bass might be played the "shred" method simply by tapping on the bass strings. In funk, solos are sometimes done by means of slapping the stings, this can also be done in pop music.

Just because the bass has four strings, you might think the bass guitar is a lot easier to play than its six-stringed counterpart, well this is not always true. Some bass players have taken the four string bass to a completely new level of playing. No matter what style you play or want to play, continuous playing and practicing is necessary to master the bass.

So what are you waiting for, take your dream of playing the bass guitar and start jamming today and who knows perhaps you'll be in the next greatest band with the hit song that has taken over the airwaves!

Shopping For Used Electric Guitar

Music lovers get attracted to music instruments invariably, but guitar is most preferred by many music lovers. Guitars are prominent from ancient times, and now with the addition of wonderful instruments like electric guitars it has also become a fantasy learning it. A new instrument to any fresher is not advisable as they lack awareness of handling it meticulously.

Used electric guitars are really beneficial to learners. Speaking of benefit, the used electric guitars come in a more affordable price than the new ones. Students or people who begin learning may discontinue due to various reasons like health, hobby, education, transfer or due to boredom of learning and mastering it as it is time consuming to master it. Procuring a used one gives the learners an opportunity to learn it without fear as they have not invested huge amount on an instrument that they may discontinue on their accord.

Playing the electric guitar involves endurance, firm determination, constant rehearsals, training, and performances. There are numerous brands and styles of electric guitars available in the music market. One has to deftly choose an electric guitar. As a first instrument, learning and practicing is best done on a used electric guitar.

Purchasing a new Electric guitar can be termed as luxurious and pricey.

Acquiring a new electric guitar sometimes turn to be a futile investment as suddenly few realize they are not interested in it as they believed they were. During such circumstances the huge amount just lies in a dump or in a closet accumulating dust.

Purchasing used electric guitars should be done keeping in mind few points like determining how much they have been used. Soundboard is another important factor to be considered in purchasing a used electric guitar. Soundboard that bears more scratches indicates frequent playing of the instrument and a better investment. If a used electric guitar involves replacement of sound board, it is a pricey bargain. Checking for indications of breaking or rupturing of the instrument is essential as it affects the balance of the instrument, and this is one of the primary reasons for new guitars to become a used electric guitar. Observing that the strings are at an equal distance to the entire length from the board is also important as it speaks on the sound produced. Ensuring the tuners on the used electric guitars are good enough to withhold the stress of the strings is necessary as a used electric guitar may weaken over a span of time resulting in getting out of tune.

Used electric guitars are available on the local music stores or pawn shops. Nowadays, websites like eBay are encumbered with used instruments like the electric guitar. Buying a used electric guitar serves as multipurpose as it saves money and assists learning. Though the music markets are flooded with electric guitars it is difficult to find big difference between any used and new electric guitar but for the price. Possessing a new one is advisable only when one is proficient in playing the electric guitar.

Acoustic Electric Guitars

The guitar is the most known and popular musical instrument. It’s an instrument that is played for almost all kinds of music, like rock music, country music, lounge music, pop music and contemporary classical music.

An acoustic guitar is hollow with a sound hole (a round hole in the face). An electric acoustic guitar is made up of wood and has six strings which produce a rhythmic, sweet, musical, yet loud sound. The difference between an acoustic electric guitar and an electric guitar is that a normal electric guitar can only be played when it is plugged in, where as an acoustic electric guitar doesn’t have to be.

Plugging in an electric acoustic guitar gives it an awesome sound. The electric guitars have a lot of knobs to deal with, whereas the acoustic electric guitars can be used as a normal guitar or an electric guitar. The strings of electric guitars are soft, and much easier to press. If asked to recommend what type of guitar is the best buy, then the acoustic electric guitar will definitely take a higher edge in recommendation as it can be used two ways: as a normal acoustic guitar to play it normally and as an electric guitar to be played when plugged in an electric socket.

The sound produced by an acoustic electric guitar when not plugged in is the same as a normal acoustic guitar, and when plugged in it sounds like a good electric guitar. The two-in-one purpose makes it the best buy if you are passionate about the guitar and want to have both types.

Electric Guitars provides detailed information on Electric Guitars, Acoustic Electric Guitars, Cheap Electric Guitars, Electric Bass Guitars and more. Electric Guitars is affiliated with Piano Lessons.

For Those Thinking About Guitar Lessons

There are many options for those who want to take guitar lessons. First consider the goal of taking instruction and the amount of time and money the student is willing to spend learning the craft. Next, the student will have to decide what type of lessons to take, as there are several methods of learning. There should also be some consideration of the style and genre of music to be learned.

There are typically two types of beginners, those who want to learn specific songs, and those who are more interested in becoming proficient on the instrument in general. Goals should be expressed clearly to the instructor at the outset for a successful outcome. Either way, most beginners will find the need to start with simple exercises and scale practice.

Time is big reason with learning any new instrument. The instructor will expect the student to spend a reasonable amount of time practicing assignments or working on techniques and songs from the session. Time is limited for many people, so be sure to account for this when committing to the guitar.

Some instructors may be more expensive than others. It is also possible to take instruction anywhere from one to several days a week. Consider how much money you are willing to spend before you shop for teachers. Some students may already be proficient enough to only need one session per week, while beginners may need more regular time with a teacher. Rates will also vary depending on whether the lessons are through a music store or a private school.

If private instruction is not in the budget, there is always online instruction. The internet is rife with instructional videos, membership sites, and note by note instruction for thousands of songs. Instruction books can also be purchased online or at most music stores for almost any level of skill. While these methods are arguably less effective, and do not give the personal attention of a teacher, they are a good way to get started or even supplement a weekly session with a tutor.

Another important consideration is the type of guitar that is to be learned. Some instructors only teach a particular style, be it acoustic, classical, or electric. Be sure to ask about this before scheduling. It is best to find someone who is proficient in all styles and types, but if a student is particularly interested in classical techniques, they may become quickly frustrated with an instructor who primarily teaches electric for heavy metal musicians.

It is a good idea to ask about a potential teacher's tastes in music. While it is necessary to learn scales and rhythm patterns regardless of a preferred genre, all styles of music use notes and rhythms in very different ways. For instance, symphonic music and hard rock share many qualities in arrangement and notation, but starkly different approaches to instrumentation and interpretation. Make sure to pick an instructor who is a good match for your musical tastes.

Learning a new instrument is both exciting and daunting work. With good direction from an experienced player, it is possible to develop a skill that will bring pleasure and satisfaction for a lifetime. Use these tips when deciding where and how to take guitar lessons, and begin a journey of musical exploration.

How To Play Country Lead Guitar

In the late nineteen thirties a cowboy musician called Bob Willis introduced the electric guitar to his audiences. Nobody knows whether they noticed this historic innovation but ten years later a whole generation sat up and took notice when Arthur Smith released his recording of "Guitar Boogie". This hit instrumental established the electric guitar as a musical force to be reckoned with. While the world of rock and roll moved to the music of Stratocasters it took a while for country musicians to move from the more restrained tones of the Gretsch archtop to the more "biting" Fender sound.

Many guitarists play their country solos on the Fender Telecaster with a Fender tube "Twin", Super Reverb or Deluxe Reverb amplifier. On the other hand, if they are on a tight budget they have been known to settle for a Peavey tube amp. One piece of equipment you will not need is the whammy bar. It is not used in playing country music.

In contrast to other musical genres that use the electric guitar, country music does not employ a wide variety of electronic effects in guitar solos. Alot of country guitar players use a strictly clean sound, maybe sprucing the music up with a little reverberation. The only effect consistently utilized by country guitar soloists is compression which enforces limits on the sound waves produced by the guitar. This effect enhances the volume of the softer notes, and slightly mutes the louder notes. This makes the overall volume seem more even.

When it comes to technique you can start off as a flatpicker but many country guitar players will use a thumbpick in combination with the index and ring finger. This naturally increases your level of versatility more than somewhat. There is a technique called "chicken pickin" which involves popping the guitar strings with your fingers. It is a little hard to describe in writing but you can see plenty of examples on YouTube, but to get the general idea, try this experiment: hold your right hand over the guitar strings, then mute your E (sixth) string by resting your index finger on it down towards the bridge. Next, pluck the string with your thumb. This will give you a "thuck" sound. To complete the chicken pickin move, pluck the open string with the nail of your index finger. This move is repeated until it comes naturally.

Country solo playing can easily begin in the first position on the guitar. When you begin to play country guitar solos just play over the chords. Do not go looking for a "country scale", although the blues scale is quite handy in country guitar playing. The trick is to practice with whatever chord shapes you have at your stage of playing and see what kind of riffs, licks and tricks you can get out of each of them. It is a very interesting way to learn because every chord has its unique character. Start with your basic chords like C, D, E, G, and A.

So if you want to learn to play country guitar solos which guitar players do you listen to? Listening to Chet Atkins will teach alot to a guitarist in any genre. He is largely responsible for the smooth Nashville sound which is so attractive to many music lovers. Chet owes his style to Merle Travis, using his thumb to pick bass notes and other fingers to play the melody and fills. And do not forget to look for music recorded by Merle Travis himself. Another guitar great is Jerry Reed. A guitarist with boundless energy and enthusiasm, he played on the Elvis Presley single of his own compositions "Guitar Man" and "US Male". This list could go on and on, so let us finish by mentioning Albert Lee, a British guitar player admired by many other famous guitarists.

History And Use Of The Bass Guitar

The bass guitar has been derived from the double bass, which was used in the late 1950's. Having 4 strings, these instruments add the lower tones to a musical performance. Experimentation with the bass had started as early as the 1920's. It wasn’t until the 50's however, that a proper bass instrument was formed.

In the mid 20th century jazz became popular. As double bass's were used those days, they were often not heard due to the lack of amplification. The drums, banjos and other instruments in the band drowned out the sound of the bass. Until the 1950 when the first electric bass came into existence with modern amplification techniques.

The bass guitar is played like all guitars with the player holding it close to his body in a horizontal position. The strings are plucked with hand or with the plectrum. In the 1970's, the slapping technique became popular.

Today, the bass guitar ranges from 4 strings up to 11 strings. The 5, 6 and 7 strings providing the mid range while the 11 string starts from a lower than human hearing going up to a very high active. Electric bass guitar players use various configurations. These changes are made by using preamplifiers and speaker sets. Signal processors are also varied to provide new soundscapes.

In night clubs, combo amplifiers are used. These amplifiers are fixed with single loud speakers to make them portable and effective.

The body of the instrument can be of wood or graphite. A wide range of finishing is applied to make it look good. IT can be colored or simply clear white. The work done on the body is fine engineering and delicate balances have to be maintained.

A hot debate rages on what to call this instrument. For non musicians, the term bass guitar is common, while hard core players like to call it electric bass or simple electric bass. Slowly but surely however, this instrument has gathered a large following which likes to use its own jargon.

The electric bass is a part of modern country music, post 1970 jazz and funk. Used mainly to provide backing, it adds a depth to the music. This instrument has added a whole new color to our musical pleasure. In sole music particularly, the bass guitar is effective.

Are sound effects used? Well, yes and no. As the bass guitar sets the tone for the rest of the band, sound effects are not often used, unlike electric guitars. Modern bands however have started experimenting with distortion units to add a new flavor to the bass and low key that they provide behind the music.

As we go into a new century, electric bass's become more and more popular. All bands use it today to add a subtle background. Many groups like U2 even use it to give a haunted feeling increasing emotional attachment with the music. Newer techniques have made this instrument a crucial part of any musical group today.

Lead Guitar - Electric or Acoustic?

Lead guitar is not dependent on the type of guitar being played, but on how that guitar is played. Often when people think of playing lead guitar, they think of playing an electric guitar. In reality, lead guitar can be electric or acoustic.

In the most basic terms, music consists of harmony, melody and rhythm. The rhythm is the pulse of the song, often referred to as the beat, and is usually played by drums, bass guitar, and rhythm guitar. Harmony is the use of matching simultaneous chords within a musical composition.

The third major component of music is the melody. Melody is the part of the music that you remember and can later identify. Melody is often the lyrics of a song, with verse and chorus being two separate melodies. It is what gives a piece of music its character.

In terms of guitar playing, lead guitar is the guitar playing the melody. A lead guitarist must be able to use riffs and fills to move the melody along, as well as playing a guitar solo if it is required in the song. While doing all of that, the lead guitarist must also be able to play in the same key at the same tempo as the rest of the band.

Whether lead guitar is played on an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar depends on the music being played. Currently popular acoustical, or unplugged, sets require musicians to play acoustical instruments. In that case, the lead guitar would be played using an acoustic guitar.

Lead guitar does not always sound the same, even if the same musician is playing the same song twice. For example, electric guitars allow for distortion and effects that acoustic guitars do not have, so the transition from electric to acoustic may require changing the melody to suit the instrument. In addition, the riffs, fills, and solos used by the guitarist may change each time if the guitarist prefers to be creative during live performances.

Contrary to popular belief, lead guitar is not a type of guitar, but a position within a band and within a song. The lead guitarist carries a great deal of responsibility in carrying the melody while staying in tune and in time with the rest of the band. Learning to play lead guitar correctly requires time and practice, but it is the instrument most listeners will remember having heard.
